My main interests are ecosystem modelling and theoretical ecology and the use of these tools to investigate the impacts of fishing and other anthropogenic effects on marine ecosystems. I have worked extensively with Ecopath with Ecosim (www.ecopath.org) and Ecological Network Analysis (http://www.cbl.umces.edu/~ulan/ntwk/network.html). I am currently finalizing the policy exploration for sustainable fisheries management and creating Ecospace models of the Gulf of Thailand and the northern Benguela ecosystems to investigate the placement of marine protected areas for the INCOFISH project (www.incofish.org). In addition, I am involved with the DeepFish project (Sustainable management of deep-water fisheries and their impact on marine biodiversity) run by the University of Plymouth. I arrived from the Fisheries Centre at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada. At the Fisheries Centre I worked on a historical reconstruction for the Bird’s Head functional seascape for the Sea Around Us (www.seaaroundus.org), the decline of Steller sea lions with the Marine Mammal Research Unit (http://www.marinemammal.org/MMRU/), the comparison of different ecosystems on the east coast of Canada for CDEENA (http://www.osl.gc.ca/cdeena/en/accueil.shtml), the reconstruction of ecosystem models for the Coasts Under Stress (http://www.coastsunderstress.ca/) and the Back to the Future project in Newfoundland and northern British Columbia (http://www.fisheries.ubc.ca/projects/ferr/). Prior to my work in Canada, I did a post doctoral study at the Chesapeake Biological Laboratory in Maryland (http://www.cbl.umces.edu/~atlss/) on the ecological network analysis of the gramminoid marshes of the Everglades.
