SAMS is the only UK partner in the new International Arctic Marine Laboratory (Kings Bay Marine Laboratory) in Ny Ålesund in north west Svalbard.

A 10-year agreement allows SAMS scientists priority access at reduced rates to the facilities to conduct controlled experiments and to sample the regional biology, ice, water column and sediment. 

As a partner in the laboratory SAMS is represented on their advisory group.
