Welcome to the Biogeochemistry and Earth Sciences Department here at SAMS. We comprise 20 staff and 5 postgraduate students. Our research investigates a diverse range of sediment, water column and ocean-atmosphere processes, including:

palaeoceanography
deep-sea mine tailings
transport and deposition of particulates
microbial biogeochemistry and climate change
nutrient cycles and fluxes
radioisotope tracers

trace metals -
climate change and the influence of ocean currents
seabed depositional processes
high latitude marine sediments
warm and cool-water carbonates
in situ benthic lander technologies
a wide range of commercial projects from around the world.
