National Facility for Scientific Diving

The NSFD is a world-class facility that supports scientific diving and is based at SAMS.

The NFSD, part of the Diving Centre at SAMS, provides advice, guidance and training for scientific diving projects. It also maintains an equipment pool and undertakes research and development projects to advance underwater research techniques. Funding is provided by the Natural Environment Research Council. The NFSD is also used to support the UK Scientific Diving Supervisory Committee, the industry-recognised body for the Scientific and Archaeological sector of the UK Diving Industry.
