UNMANNED UNDERWATER VEHICLE FOR SAMS

SAMS physics group with new UUV

One of the first of its class in the UK, the SAMS Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (UUV) has been mounted with a unique combination of sensing equipment to assist physicists at the lab with their research. Resembling a miniature submarine, the 2m long vehicle is capable of 12-hour missions down to a depth of 600m. With the capability to simultaneously measure dye-tracers and turbulence, this vehicle is the very first of its kind. Once delivered to SAMS in March, the general public will be invited to join a competition to help think up a name for the vehicle.
