Research interests
I am a social scientist with an interest in environmental public policy, political science and environmental management. My research interests fall into three broad categories: marine and coastal policy and governance, application of environmental policy instruments, and 'green' innovation / urban environmental geography. In the first category I am interested in marine policy effectivnessat regional, national and international levels including the emerging Scottish, UK initiatives. Im am also pursuing research and teaching in the governance of the high seas particularly the Arctic and Antarctic regions. In terms of policy instruments explore the application of sustainability indicators in fisheries and ICZM and the use of market-based instruments such as ecolabelling and certification in fisheries and aquaculture. I have a strong research interest in developing green industries and ecological modernisation in society and exploring the links between innovation and sustainable development.
I am also interested in developing and applying social science and qualitative methods to policy problems and the improving the links between the natural and social sciences and science-policy integration.
