        Charles Coates

PhD student

I have recently retired from a career initially in engineering and then in strategy consulting after completing a Master’s at MIT. For the last thirty-five years I have advised businesses and organisations worldwide. Over the last two years, I have built a house in the Highlands where my wife and I now live, having moved from Devon. My three daughters live in London.

My interests include birds, (dog-) walking and traveling.

I proposed the subject matter because I see it as an urgent challenge, the first to face all mankind, and one which is not being addressed in an effective way. There are harder decisions to be made than currently being asked. The mainstream lacks the understanding and knowledge to challenge what is being done and is not well prepared to consider the inevitable trade-off’s which addressing global warming will  require. I hope that, by using my combination of experience across technology, economics, organisational dynamics, driving change and delivering results, my work can help in some way.
