Aquaculture Modeller

I use mathematical and computer modelling to tackle conservation and sustainability problems.

My main interests are using modelling individual energy dynamics to forecast climate change impacts on fish populations, and understanding the flow of energy and nutrients in integrated multi-trophic aquaculture to improve fatty acid levels of cultured fish.

Current project

Diverseafood: Investigating the potential of integrated multi-trophic aquaculture (IMTA) to improve fatty acdi budgets. I am building a mass based model of the IMTA system, parameterised for fatty acids, to understand the flow of energy and nutrient. Funded by BBSRC 2019-21

 

Highlight past project

Modelling the availability of small pelagic fish to birds and marine mammals off the east coast of Scotland. PhD project on modelling sandeel energy dynamics to explore the influence of food and temperature on sandeel abundance and energy content. Funded by MASTS and Marine Scotland 2012-17.
