Work starts on European Marine Science Park

Building work has now commenced to develop the first phase of the European Marine Science Park adjacent to SAMS. This £7.5 million Highlands and Islands Enterprise flagship project - supported with £3M by European Regional Development Fund - will provide 20,000 ft2 laboratory and office space for business ventures related to marine science, energy and life science. It is a perfect graduation space for tenants of our European Centre for Marine Biotechnology.

SAMS Director, Professor Laurence Mee, commented: "With the success of the European Centre for Marine Biotechnology at the SAMS we have demonstrated how the private sector can make innovative use of the scientific knowledge and unique natural assets available in Argyll. HIE's European Marine Science Park will build on this, allowing entrepreneurs to spin out companies that will bring new jobs to the region and create a knowledge-based society that will resonate nationally and internationally. This is a fantastic development and a huge vote of confidence from HIE, the private sector and the Scottish Government."
