There was a double celebration at this year’s SAMS graduation for two former PhD students who attended the ceremony as newlyweds.

Dr Guy Trimby and Dr Elise Depauw tied the knot on 22^nd July at the Tigh an Truish, Seil in front of a small wedding party that included former SAMS colleagues. They celebrated with the wider SAMS and UHI community at graduation last Friday.

The couple were part of the same intake of PhD students on the 2^nd October 2017 and said they ‘just clicked’ from that first day.

Elise said: “We both have a passion for food, especially seafood, so I’m glad we met in Oban!

“It’s so nice to be graduating together; I feel like that’s our SAMS journey fully complete.”

Guy now works as a research and development scientist at biotechnology company MiAlgae and Elise is an environment co-ordinator for Diageo.
