To enable our students to thrive as early career researchers, SAMS supports them through a wide range of research and development opportunities, including: 

   -   Professional development – including conference attendance, research cruises, fieldwork and/or short term internships.

   -   Ethics – all students complete ethics training and require approval before starting their research.

   -   Research skills and methods pertinent to their studies, including access to SAMS’ research vessels and all aspects of health and safety.

   -   Leadership training - including Advance HE’s Aurora Leadership Development Programme for women.

   -   Transferable skills: for example, project management, budgeting and writing for publications.

   -   Science communication skills including presentations, seminars, dealing with the media, social media posting, videos, posters, infographics and public engagement.

   -   Teaching and demonstrating on the undergraduate Marine Science programme.
