SAMS scientists Kate Willis and Shona Magill will be spending two weeks at the new Kings Bay Arctic Marine Laboratory at Ny Alesund, Spitsbergen, in July. They will be undertaking temperature stress experiments with Arctic copepods for a project investigating thermal tolerance in three species belonging to the genus Calanus. This will be the first time that SAMS scientists have used the lab facilities at Kings Bay.
Financial support for the visit is being provided by an ARCFAC V grant (Trans-national Access to the European Centre for Arctic Environmental Research contract no. RITA-CT-2006-026129) funded by the European Commission under its FP6 Programme in Structuring the European Research Area.
