SAMS helps search for missing diver

The search continues today for a recreational diver who failed to surface from a wreck dive in Ardmucknish Bay, Oban yesterday.
The 54-year-old man was reported missing by fellow divers on Tuesday morning after diving on the wreck of the SS Breda. An extensive search was launched that included the vessels RV Seòl Mara and dive RHiB Tritonia from the Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS), a Royal Navy rescue helicopter from HMS Gannet, the Coastguard, the RNLI, and police and naval rescue divers. Unfortunately the diver was not found.
Today the search resumed with just naval and police divers taking part. The hyperbaric chamber at SAMS has been on stand-by throughout the operation in case either the missing or the search divers need treatment.
The Breda was a Dutch cargo steamer which sank following an attack by a German plane in 1942.
