Up for grabs: funds for invasive alien research

A new EU grant is available for PhD students and early stage researchers interested in biological invasions and invasive alien species management.

The project aims to collect and share data on alien species, which is fed into a European information system that is to improve effective and informed decision-making on Invasive Alien Species (IAS).

This EU COST Action project—“European Information System for Alien Species” (Alien Challenge 2013-17)—is promoting inter-laboratory exchange visits, also known as Short Term Scientific Missions (STSMs), by funding scientists to go to institutions in other COST countries to foster collaboration, to learn a new technique or to take measurements using instruments and/or methods not available in their own institution/laboratory.

There are four Working Groups involved in the project and the STSMs will also be used for applying their objectives. PhD students and early stage researchers (i.e. those with a PhD less than 8 years) are strongly encouraged to apply.

The first deadline for applications for a STSM is September 6th, 2013.
