SAMS mourns the loss of John Kershaw

April 16th -- It is with great sadness that SAMS announces the death of friend and colleague John Kershaw.

John died suddenly and unexpectedly at his home on Sunday April 6th. He was just 51. Our thoughts are with his family and all those who were close to him.

John joined SAMS in December 2006. He was recruited as the Aquarium Manager, managing the aquarium facilities, associated laboratories and activities. By the time he arrived here, John already had 25 years’ experience of electrical and electronic engineering maintenance and management. Consequently, he played an integral role in the refurbishment of the aquarium, carefully planning and designing it, transforming it into a first class facility – an outstanding legacy in which he took pride.

John was a quiet and private man but enjoyed interacting with staff and students, for whom he had a lot of time and would help set up their experiments. All who worked with him recognised how extremely good he was at his job and how extremely dedicated he was to it too: John’s death is a big loss to SAMS and he is greatly missed by all who worked with him.

John is survived by his wife Jane, his children and grand-daughter.

May he rest in peace.
