Research interest
My research interests stem around applicable actions that can be taken to improve the outputs of the seaweed nursery. Whether this be the conditions which we keep our cultures, the processes we enact upon them or the equipment we install to ensure high quality products. I also work on improving systems that the nursery requires to function and adopting new materials that are more sustainable.
Seaweed related expertise
I have over six years of experience working on seaweed projects from both an academic and commercial standpoint.
Academically I have produced research on the ‘methane-busting’ Asparagopsis taxiformis, assessing growth rates, biochemical properties and how production could be scaled.
I have been working at SAMS Enterprise for 2.5 years where I lead activities in the Seaweed Nursery to produce seedstock for farmers to grow out on a commercial scale.
I contribute to research that aims to improve the development rate of kelp cultures to act as seedstock and improve seeding success.
I am also involved in teaching on the Seaweed Academy's Overview Course and Nursery Course.
