Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Marine Social Science (D04/23.MS)

Contract Type: Open ended

Working Pattern:  Full Time (37hrs per week)

Salary Range: Grade 7/8.   Lecturer G7 - £42,155 - £47,423 per annum. Senior Lecturer G8 - £51,805 - £58,284 per annum

The Role

You will be a key player in driving forward SAMS programme of discovery and applied research in marine and coastal social-ecological systems.

You will be expected to engage with both existing SAMS research and commercial projects as well as develop your own funding streams as well as contribute to SAMS programme of education at undergraduate and post-graduate levels.

The expectation is that the post holder will develop a research portfolio supported from both traditional and non-traditional sources - including NGOs, Trusts, Foundations etc. - to deliver targeted applied research.  As part of this, you will be expected to work alongside both researchers, with the SAMS Enterprise team and the Development team, linked to philanthropic funding sources.

A key aspect will be to contribute to the further development of social science research as part of the Blue Growth Research Area . SAMS and the industries related to this such as aquaculture, marine renewable energy, fisheries, and other rural economies such as tourism. But also, SAMS’ other Research Areas in Ocean Systems and Dynamic Coasts .

You will make a positive contribution to the sustainable development of maritime communities around the world, and position SAMS as an internationally leading exemplar of fruitful policy-academic-industry partnership working.

 

Our Ideal Candidate

You will have a PhD in Marine Social Science, Sustainability or Regional Studies, Sustainable Environmental Management, Environmental or Ecological Economics or related field as well as experience operating in a more independent role as a lecturer/senior lecturer.

You will have a broad knowledge of international policy relating to sustainability goals, action research, social and environmental valuation, and social impact assessment with a proven track record of high-quality publications (REF3/4* standard).

You will also have a track record of research, commercial income as well as some non-traditional income streams.
