Honorary Research Fellow

Anthony Speca is an educator, politician and Arctic specialist. In 2016, he created and launched the world’s only secondary-school Model Arctic Council (MAC) programme to share his enthusiasm for the Arctic with youth, and to inspire them to learn more about this unique region and its peoples.  In the years since, he has offered dozens of MACs for various schools and universities, including the first Scotland Model Arctic Council at SAMS.  He combines this innovative educational work with appointments to Norwich School and the University of East Anglia.

Anthony has also been involved with government and politics since 2008, when he was appointed as a senior policy official with the Government of Nunavut in the Canadian Arctic.  Later, he founded Polar Aspect, a consultancy dedicated to Arctic policy and education.  He is now a politician himself, having been elected for the Green Party to East Suffolk Council in the UK, which he also serves as Chair.
