Joseph Maguire is an Associate Professor in Computing Science at the University of Glasgow and appointed member of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE) Young Academy of Scotland (YAS) working at the intersection of ethics and education.

Previously visiting researcher at the Centre of Advanced Security Research in the Technische Universität Darmstadt as well as the Security, Privacy, Adaptation & Requirements Engineering group in Lero, the Science Foundation Ireland Research Centre for Software.

He is interested in the theory and application of computing systems as well as their impact on individuals and society. 

Elected Chair of the United Kingdom ACM Special Interest Group in Computing Science Education (UKSIGCSE), member of the ACM Education Advisory Committee (EAC) and Co-Chair of the BCS Scottish Computing Education Committee (SCEC), he is committed to supporting colleagues and students in achieving their best work. Leader of the UK and Ireland Steering Committee for the United Kingdom and Ireland Computing Education Research (UKICER) conference, he is committed to ensuring the ongoing progression and development of individuals.

Recent relevant grants include support from the UK National Centre for Cyber Security (NCSC) to develop education resources and co-led in the design of an undergraduate programme in Scotland with outcomes presented to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
