Robopreneurs

Robopreneurs works with P6/7 pupils in primary schools across Argyll and Bute, to equip young people with the tools and opportunities to apply their knowledge and understanding of robotics and innovation in a region-wide entrepreneurial challenge.

Each school participating is given a small drone with a teacher receiving training by the Scientific Robotics Academy at SAMS, to explore their local area with pupils. To nurture this curiosity in their local environment, schools will keep their drones for future use and exploration.

A teacher from each participating school will also undergo CPD upskilling, receiving four training modules on Entrepreneurship and how to bring this into their classroom by Skillfluence. In addition to this, both teachers and the young people participating in Robopreneurs will have an insight from our marine scientists on how different technologies are used for environmental monitoring in the form of online sessions.

Utilising the expertise from within our own communities, local businesses will visit the classes involved in the project, to share their own inspiration and how they identified the requirement for their businesses in their local areas.

From there, pupils will create their own business ideas on how technology could benefit their own communities, and will take part in a “Dragons Den” competition across the region, presenting their ideas to local businesspeople in their own communities. This will result in the final groups travelling to SAMS to present their work to the Scientific Robotics Academy, SSE and other local members of Argyll and Bute’s STEM network.

The Role of SAMS

SAMS are leading Robopreneurs, coordinating support for teachers participating in the project resources, delivering the robotics training for participating teaching staff with the Scientific Robotics Academy, and providing research insights. SAMS will also coordinate the region-wide entrepreneurship competition.
