Lacustrine ecosystems under ice

With increasing pressure from climate change-induced warming across the northern hemisphere, the consequences of winter for lake fish and their food webs are pressing, but almost completely unstudied.

Nested within a global research consortium, LAkE-ICE will form a key component of the network to assess limnic winter ecosystems and key energy sources fuelling lake food webs beneath ice.

Spanning the Canadian, American and Norwegian Arctic and, importantly, southern lakes in boreal and temperate regions, LAkE-ICE will help establish more appropriate fisheries targets that protect at risk species.
